How to go to a presidential campaign rally?

lately ive been watching alot of obama & mccain 2008 rallys on youtube, i was just wondering, how do all those ppl get 2 go there? are those rallys free? are they tickets expensive? with the 2012 campaign coming up, please help me out. thx :)
