Someobody help me about my haircut please?? :))?

Okay so tomorrow I'm getting a haircut. I have really long hair and alot too! I'm planning on cutting it about under my shoulder. Anyways I want to ask the lady of she can take some hair out, you know. When you get your hair layered they take hair out to make it feel less? Is there a way I can get that even if I'm not getting any layers?
