What policies do you think helped Obama get elected in '08?

I didn't follow his campaign or McCain's really for that matter but I am just wondering what helped Obama win in '08? Who will be running from the Republican party in '12 do you think? What will Obama emphasize in his campaign for '12? Open ? to all political party supporters.
